Lakeside Arts Centre

Lakeside Arts Centre is the University of Nottingham’s public arts centre and museum, programming high quality music, theatre, dance, comedy, literature, and family events. Located on the University Park campus, with three different galleries, two excellent cafes and enviable lakeside walks, there really is something for everyone. Lakeside is the ideal place to take time out, wind down and experience the very best in visual and performing arts.

The University of Nottingham Museum of Archaeology was opened in 1933 when Felix Oswald, a Roman pottery specialist donated his collection to the University.

Oswald's collection includes the material he evacuated at the Roman settlement of Margidunum at Bingham in Nottinghamshire and the internationally important collection of Samian pottery.

The Museum has recently moved into its new building adjacent to the Djanogly Art Gallery and is curated by Clare Pickersgill.

The Museum gives an insight into the everyday lives of people throughout the East Midlands over 250, 000 years by displaying a wide variety of archaeological artefacts from important regional excavations in Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

There is also a small display of objects from other countries including Italy, Cyprus and Egypt.

The museum also works closely with schools and currently tours
a mini museum in a trunk, an archaeological treasure trove and
dressing-up box which leads children on a journey into the past
to the Roman site of Margidunum at Bingham.

To book this resource for your school, or more information for community groups and organisations contact the Museum directly to organise guided tours and handling sessions.
