Lakeside’s International Children’s Theatre and Dance Festival
Family Weekend in the Park

Saturday 4 & Sunday 5 June
(Luminarium from 11am, other events from 12 noon)

Our festival weekend is hugely popular with families and children of all ages, including a wide range of outdoor activities to try as well as some impromptu performances in the park, the majority of which are entirely free of charge!

Look out for these wacky and wonderful things to see, make and do. A detailed timetable will be available on our website www.lakesidearts.org.uk closer to the time.

See …
Creature Encounter present The Hairy Chairs
Two giant walking armchairs complete with big slippers carry their young charges - Freya aged ten, and her adopted younger brother the philosophical monster Gumf – around Lakeside’s parklands, stopping to chat to passers by, and tell wondrous stories of friendship and adventure. Don’t miss this double act who fuse slap-stick comedy with clever animatronics puppetry.

Dave Fearless International Stunt Man
Is it a bird, is it a plane… no it’s Dave Fearless – International Stuntman. Heroic, fearless and brave beyond belief, you will gasp in awe as you witness Dave’s world famous stunts including the twisted spike of steel death or the inflatable space hopper of doom! Be prepared to be astonished…

Maison Foo present

Seaside Shinanigans
In need of a holiday? Never fear Maison Foo are here to bring bathing bedlam to the festival with their uniquely portable seaside. Relax and join the holiday spirit in True Maison Foo style as their very special beach travels across Lakeside.

The Mobile Library (Ans)
Two intriguing and rather nosy librarians are on a mission to stamp, file and collect you and your stories as they venture through the park posing as a rather curious-looking mobile library! So hide those overdue books, get your library cards at the ready and prepare to be thoroughly investigated. P.S. Shhhhhhhhhhh!

The Gramophones
Look out for this Nottingham-based, all-female company’s latest witty and interactive theatre piece. Always played with a twinkle in their eyes, the Gramaphones appeal to the joyful and mischievous side in us all.

Ahoy!
All aboard the Little Duck for a journey that isn’t quite shipshape. Follow our intrepid and slightly inept adventurers as they embark upon a voyage into the unexpected. Straying into unchartered waters, they find strange and fantastic things begin to happen, leaving them bursting with questions... like... Does a canal boat go backwards as well as forwards? Where did I put my hamster? And just who is that hiding in the laundry basket?

Notts Circus
Using all sorts of clever circus skills involving ropes and high wire, Notts Circus reveal a playful, humorous tale about a mischievous cat and her owner. Suitable for all the family, look out for this brand new theatrical adventure of enormous heights and potential catastrophe!

Dans La Poche
In a Lakeside debut for this exciting French company, travelling haberdasher Gracie Spoon arrives amongst us with a tray full of buttons, tricks and tales, weaving together a patchwork wonderland of magic and stories to delight and amaze everyone....

Sandpits
Look out for the Lakeside Sandpits complete with Life Guards.

The Lost Cuckoo
Interactive Community Sculpture
Many visitors to the children’s festival in 2009 will remember Marcus Rowlands’ Heron Island: a vast flock of pyramid-shaped charcoal drawings that stretched out across Highfields Park.
We are delighted that Marcus is joining us again this year with creative collaborators 2hd, the Nottingham-based architect’s practice.

Heron Island was a great success largely because of you, the public, and this year you will be invited to shine once more as you construct a modular sculpture on a similarly grand scale. You will be playing with shapes alongside the artists and families from Bilborough who have been driving the research and design stage of this exciting project as the interlocking modular forms have evolved.
